More than 20,000 cyclists descended upon Sheikh Zayed Road with Sheikh Hamdan to take part in the debut ‘Dubai Ride’ event, in line with the month-long Dubai Fitness Challenge.
In a first, a 14-kilometre section of Sheikh Zayed Road turned into a cycling track playing host to the inaugural Dubai Ride edition, with Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum leading the event as 20,000 residents turned up on Friday morning to ride past some of Dubai’s top landmarks, including Burj Khalifa, Emirates Towers, World Trade Centre, Museum of the Future and the skyscrapers that form Dubai’s futuristic skyline.
Former Portuguese Footballing veteran Luis Figo and His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) were among the notable participants.
