A multitude of people in Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) locale spotted a helicopter carrying huge sculptures of a tiger and gorilla yesterday afternoon.

2020 has been quite a muted year for Dubai in the aftermath of the Coronavirus outbreak, but with the city reopening and the bustling life returning back to normal, we’re starting to see more rare happenings touted as “only in Dubai.”

Yesterday afternoon saw a helicopter carrying poly-sculptures of a golden tiger and a grey gorilla flying through Dubai’s skies until descending upon the Address Dubai Marina hotel in JBR, at the newly-opened pool club and lounge, ‘Wane by SoMiya.’ Some onlookers assumed it was “a real tiger” while some joked it’s “a normal day in Dubai.”

It’s only fitting for Wane by SoMiya to boast about the installations at their pool club, touting itself as an “urban jungle.” It’s worth mentioning the tiger has been situated toward the end of the pool, making it look like it’s walking on water.

“The artistic installations by the commissioned artist Idriss B were chosen for their modern age creativity and edginess, in line with the essence of our venue. We wanted these unique sculptures to bring our new rooftop to life as an urban jungle in the city.”

Yoann Grillet, Managing Director of the SoMiya Group.

A new addition to Dubai’s nightlife scene, Wane by SoMiya is open daily during the early hours of the day as a ‘daytime pool’ and a ‘night-time lounge” until the wee hours of the night.

Their timings are from 8 am-3 am midnight.

From elephants and camels to falcons and bears, his poly-sculptures have been featured at prominent places including the Zaya Nurai Island, Atlantis The Palm’s The Pointe and Emirates Golf Club. Not to mention his celebrity clients, Lindsay Lohan and Akon are fans of his works too.
