Indian Premier League (IPL) defending champions Mumbai Indians are set to square off versus runners-up Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi on 19th September as the tournament’s fixtures are out.
IPL 2020 to kick off with Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings match
There’s a great deal of anticipation surrounding the IPL, moving to the UAE for the second time in its 13-year history. While matches will be played in closed gates without spectators given the state of the pandemic, cricket fans have a lot of entertainment coming up this season with 60 matches to be played through the next two months and this league will see the return of numerous cricketing superstars we haven’t seen in action since the Coronavirus outbreak.
‘El Classico’ of IPL
What’s touted to be a “blockbuster” opening game, four-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will face off on day one of IPL, to be held at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The two teams boast of the most number of trophies with Mumbai Indians winning four times and Chennai Super Kings winning thrice. 2019 saw the dramatic final between the arch-rivals with MI veteran Lasith Malinga bowling out opponents CSK out to win by just one run.
Both the teams have squared off 28 times with Mumbai Indians winning 17 of them.
Day matches from 2 pm and evening matches from 6 pm onward
This IPL will see 10 doubleheaders, with day matches beginning from 2 pm UAE time followed by the evening matches from 6 pm. Dubai will host 24 matches, followed by Abu Dhabi hosting 20 matches and 12 matches to be played in Sharjah.
