For the first time in its history, the USA’s iconic Times Square is hoisting India’s flag on the occasion of India’s 74th Independence Day this Saturday, 15th August.
India flag hoisting ceremony at Times Square this Independence Day
Thanks to Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) in New York, the organization is hoisting the Indian flag at the world-famous tourist spot Times Square this Monday from 9:30 am onward (GMT-4).
Even though there’s no announcement of a live telecast by the FIA, the Indian Consulate in New York says the ceremony will be streamed live on their Facebook page.
Empire State Building to light up for India
It’s fair to say India is truly taking over New York City next week with the Empire State Building illuminating in the colours of India’s flags on Sunday, 14th August. It isn’t the first time the skyscraper has lit up in the country’s tricolour, having shun last October in time for Diwali.

It’s also worth mentioning India’s flag hoisting ceremony at Times Square comes fresh off the streets’ billboards displaying the Ram Mandir ceremony last week.
