Shocking footage emerged of a sea turtle unable to swim freely after entangling itself into a plastic net off the Dibba coast until a diver spotted the reptile and helped cut the laces.
Duo to the rescue of a stranded sea turtle
UAE resident Fahim Al Qasimi went free diving with his friend Sean Dennis when he noticed a tiny sea turtle barely able to move its flippers on the surface of the sea. Without intervention, the reptile would have suffocated and been unable to survive. The duo took it upon themselves to rescue the little creature by pulling a long lace from the turtle’s mouth and removed most of the net until they noticed its flippers were entangled with the nets.
Fahim took the sea turtle to his boat to cut the remaining laces with scissors until the reptile freely moved its flippers and was ready to return into the sea.
Action camera footage of the entire rescue set Twitter aflutter with dozens of users in praise of the duo. After running a quick search about the duo on the internet, it turns out Fahim and Sean are the brainchildren behind a seafood marketplace, Seafood Souq.
“Please think about our oceans and the world we live in. We’re so happy we could save her, but there are so many lives claimed and damage done to our environment that could be avoided, simply by not littering.”
