A number of Ministers, Rulers, Sheikhs and Royal family members are offering their condolences to the Al Qasimi family following the death of Sharjah’s Deputy Ruler, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi passes away aged 72
One of the pioneers of the oil and gas industry in Sharjah, Sheikh Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi held numerous positions including Chairman of the Sharjah Oil Council, Board of Director of the Sharjah Liquefaction Gas Company and an Honourary Chairman of Dana Gas, the largest non-government owned natural gas company in the region with an estimated revenue of $470 million (AED 1.7b).
Moreover, Sheikh Ahmed served the UAE Federation in 1971, followed by his election to the post of Minister of Justice in the UAE’s government ministerial formation until 1990 and serving as the Deputy Ruler to Sharjah’s Ruler, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi for more than 30 years.

While the reason behind Sheikh Ahmed’s death remains undisclosed, he passed away in London on Thursday and an outpour of condolences have been expressed led by Ruler of Dubai, UAE Prime Minister and Vice President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, saying “May God rest his soul” and “we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return,” followed by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan condoling “I pray they are granted patience and solace during these difficult and trying times.”
Three-day mourning period in Sharjah
A three-day mourning period is announced following Sheikh Ahmed’s death, wherein UAE flags will be flown at half-mast starting from the day the deceased’s body arrives.
